Vipassana for conflict resolution When one eye weeps can the other sleep?Anger has always been one of the major destructive forces known to humanity. Not only has it destroyed families, communites and civilisations over the centuries, but also has destroyed the very person or persons who manifest it. In its mildest from, suppressed within, anger drains the individual- physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Heart attacks, ulcers, acidity, gastroenteritis, arthritis, blood pressure and alcohol abuse are just some of the examples of how anger affects human beings. In its grosser form we it minifests in murders, sexual abuse, mob hysteria- simply an annihilation of an individual, a community or a civilisation's right to live. Never has anger, in its unbridled form led to an evolutionary growth for siciety. And yet we all experience anger and sometimes nurture it.
We all know what is happening in the north eastern states of India and especially in Manipur. Politically a lot of things have been done to deal with the problem. Even after years of trying, the situation has only worsened. Other than political, other interventions are being tried out now. The cause of anger has been traced back to the deep hurt, volcanic anger and frustration hiddeen in the subconscious of the people of Manipur. For reasons both known and unknown to outsiders, there is a feeling of being neglected and victimised by the main stream society which is causing this kind of reactions. It is to be noted that daily events of killing is no more limited to only Naga and Kuki communities. Any small quarrel triggers people to kill one another. The land of Manipur needs to be cleansed of that anger and frusttration. The question is how?
Thread as an organisation has also put in its efforts to bring peace in Manipur. Through training on 'Responding to conflict'it is helping members of the Manipuri community and their leaders to deal with anger . It is also trying out interventions triggering the collective consciousness for peace and uprooting the deep hurt of the ethnic communities by dealing in the subconscious levels of individuals. Thread is taking yet another step for conflict resoultion by using Vipassana meditation Techniques.
Vippassana meditation leads the person towards observing the reality as it is. This helps in calming down the mind, which is very much needed for parties in conflict in Manipur and leads to changes in behafviour and attitudes towards life. This meditation also helps to overcome fears, blocks , dissolves residual emotions and formed behavioural patterns, thus helping one to feel empowered within oneself. This technique is not affiliated to any religion. The medium used for concentration of mind, observation of breath and bodily sensation is universal and secular. This is a simple technique with scientific explanation.
To accelerate the peace process we are inviting meditators from outside Manipur who have good will for the land. A group of people sitting together and directing their good will and positive energy will have tremedous effect on the cleansing process. For this purpose we invite meditators as well as sponsers( both individuals and organisations) who will bear the travel cost of the meditators*. This is an issue that concerns the entiire country. We expect concern and sensitivity from all, no matter to which region one belongs to . When one part bleeds can the other parts rest in peace? When one eye weeps can the other sleep
Responding to Anger(For the general public & executives of corporate & social sector and religious leaders) Anger has always been one of the major destructive forces known to humanity. In its mildest form, suppressed within, anger has eaten away at the individual physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Heart attacks, ulcers, acidity, gastroenteritis, arthritis, blood pressure and alcohol abuse are just some of the symptoms of this anger destroying the human. In its grosser from we have murders, sexual abuse, mob hysteria simply an annihilation of an individual, a community or a civilisations right to live. Never has anger, in its unbridled form, led to an evolutionary growth for society and yet we all experience anger.
